The International Symposium of Education and Film called for respect for the family (26-11-05) Valencia - The 2nd International Symposium of Education and Film, which ended today in Valencia, in its conclusions called for respect for the family in film and television scripts because "where the family ends, marginalization begins". According to the participants' conclusions, "scripts about the family, the central human theme, need to be aware of the positive and negative social influence they have, helping or hindering the necessary foundations of life". The symposium, which lasted three days was organised by the Catholic University of Valencia under the title "Family and Scripts". It also concluded that "the image of the woman projected in film should show real womens' characteristics, and make clear that they are more than sexual objects". The conclusions equally reflect that "film, through scripts, needs to be aware of what is the essence of the relationship between man and woman and should not alter what is proper and natural and if it does, should draw attention to it". Lastly, the symposium's participants ask others "to work rigorously in the anthropology of film scripts because that is what leads to the discovery that the truth about Man begins with the family and the big screen and television can help us free ourselves". The International Symposium of Education and Film was dedicated to scripts and the family in aid of the World Meeting of the Families (WMF) called by the Pope in Valencia from 1st to 9th July, 2006, sources from the organisation told the agency AVAN. The event, in which European film-makers, scriptwriters, teachers and lecturers collaborated, aslo included numerous conferences and film screenings in the Lys Film Theatres and at the Santa Úrsula campus of the CUV. The symposium was sponsored by the Pontifical Culture Comission, with the collaboration of the Valencian Film Library. AVAN |
